VIDEO: Treating Menopause Naturally - Vaginal Dryness

Vaginal dryness is a very common symptom that menopausal women experience. Vaginal dryness also known as vaginal atrophy is where the tissues in the vaginal wall become more dry, and start to break down. Fortunately it's very easy to treat naturally.

Hi I'm Dr. Mark Stengler from the Stengler Center for Integrative Medicine, and I'm continuing my series on how to help women going through pre-menopause and menopause naturally. Today I want to talk about a very common symptom that menopausal women experience and postmenopausal women. And it's called vaginal dryness, also known as vaginal atrophy. And this is where the tissues become more dry, the tissues start to break down in the vaginal wall. Now fortunately it's very easy to treat. In conventional medicine, typically, a woman is prescribed estrogen replacement vaginally. There's different types that can be used, some are natural and some are synthetic. Obviously we do not recommend the synthetic versions which commonly, family physicians practice and a lot of gynecologists. In our practice we prescribe Estriol vaginal cream spelled E-S-T-R-I-O-L. Estriol is a more natural form of estrogen. It's a safer form, it's a more gentle form. For women that need a stronger effect we may also combine it with natural testosterone that helps to build the tissues up and bring back more moisture. But in any case in the vast majority of cases, using natural Estriol vaginal cream or with testosterone, natural testosterone, women can get significant relief of this problem. And generally women are very happy with the results. For a complete list of treatments offered and conditions addressed at the Stengler Center for Integrative Medicine.
